Malarkey Roofing Products has been manufacturing roofing products for over sixty years. In 1976 Malarkey started researching Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS) rubber modified polymers in roofing products. In 1997 Malarkey introduced Legacy the first SBS polymer modified shingle. They called this new technology Flexor. Flexor makes the shingles more pliable which holds the granules better and makes this shingle highly impact resistant. Since then Malarkey has continued researching this technology and has recently introduced the new Vista shingles with Nexgen polymer modified asphalt. This new Nexgen technology utilizes a blend of Flexor asphalt with post-consumer recycled polymers. So, rather than buying raw and adding polymer, Nexgen uses the waste products from other companies that already have the polymers added. For example, when shoe manufactures stamp out the rubber soles of the shoes, the remaining material rather than being hauled to a land fill, is tested for quality and hauled to Malarkey for use in the Vista Nexgen shingle.
