Now that spring is among us, it is time to do some after winter inspections to make sure your roof is in good shape for years to come. Some things to take a look for are:
- Blown up tabs, missing tabs or missing shingles can cause problems for your roof including leaks and potential future damage. Shingles should be inspected for damage due to falling debris or improper snow and ice removal during the winter.
- Moss and algae build up can cause your roof to deteriorate prematurely and should be removed regularly. A solution of TSP and bleach can help keep both from coming back as fast, as well as installing zinc strips at the ridge.
- Bent aluminum flashings around chimneys areas can cause leaks and should be repaired or replaced.
- Missing granules in gutters or on porches can be an indicator of shingles that are worn out and need to be replaced.
